Gulag Preworkout is a new high-stim pre-workout supplement from Just Vibes, also a new brand with no other products on the market.
The highlights of the ingredient profile are 6g of Citrulline Malate, 3.2 g Beta-Alanine, 1.5g Agmatine Sulfate and a rather interesting 692mg prop blend of Caffeine, DMHA, Synephrine and Alpha Yohimbine.
If you are looking for pumps in your pre-workout, there is not much here. Gulag is centered around energy, focus, and mood, and it delivers.
Some are saying (mainly TJ from FDN) this is the new Dark Energy or the new Jack3D (but no, not really).
You’re getting a good wave of energy and mood enhancement with this one. This has made our strongest pre workout list for 2022.
Although I’ve only taken it just two times, both times it came through for focus, mood, and energy. I could only recommend this for intermediate pre-workouts or advanced users who’ve dealt with gray-market stims in their product and don’t necessarily care about pumps.

Our Experience With The Gulag
My Experience
We took Gulag a few times, and it felt good. Mind you we are experienced pre-workout users.
The first time I took it by itself for arms day, the second time I took it with a pump product (just pumps, no nootropics (Blood Shot Pre Workout)), and the effects were the same, smooth energy, and great mood elevation.
The main attraction here is the mood elevation, which is a great indication that product does indeed contain legit DMHA, which is a problem in 2022. Some products claim they contain this ingredient but either flat out do not have this or have a low quality version of the ingredient.
Obviously we got way more pumps when stacked with a pump product. We combined it with Bloodshot by Apollon Nutrition.
Flavors
Gulag pre workout comes in 3 flavors:
- Tigers Blood
- Rocket Pop
- Pineapple Mango Mimosa.
We tried the Rocket Pop (aka These Flavors Don’t Run) and enjoyed it.
If you’re looking for a rating, probably 8/10.
Update: Also tried the Mimosa flavor. It is a 5/10.
Effects
The Beta-Alanine tingles started within 5 minutes and lasted a good 20 minutes. The tingles were not very intense for me, but it was noticeable.
Even though the stimulants are within a prop blend, I enjoyed this one. The energy was smooth, never got too intense or aggressive. I did not get any intense Alpha Yo side effects. The energy lasted a pleasant 2-3 hours.
Gulag Ingredients
L-Citrulline – 6,000 mg
Citrulline Malate is Citruline bonded with malic acid. It has extensive evidence supporting its effects on increasing nitric oxide production, power output, and endurance, making it an excellent pump ingredient.
6 grams is a good dose following studies on the amino acid for improved blood flow.
Beta-Alanine – 3,200 mg
This is the standard dose for beta-alanine, which, taken consistently, has been shown to improve muscular endurance by acting as a lactic acid buffer in muscles; this is the ingredient that gives you the “tingles.”
Agmatine Sulfate – 1,500 mg
Agmatine Sulfate is often looked at as a pump ingredient, in this industry by many companies, but studies are inconclusive. Now many people seem to get good results from it when it is in a pre workout however, you need to decide if it works.
1.5 grams is on the higher end.
Caffeine Anhydrous – 250 mg
The Grand-Daddy of stimulant supplements. It’s in your coffee, tea, soda, heck; it may even be in your sweets and gum (some confectioners add caffeine to their sweets for a kick). Well known for increasing energy, power, and focus, it’s the staple ingredient in all stim-based products.
2-Aminoisoheptane (Prob Blend)
2-Aminoisoheptane, DMHA, Kigelia Africana, Juglans Regia (J. Regia), Octodrine, and Dimethylhexylamine. DMHA is a stimulant, similar to DMAA, known for boosting energy, focus, and mood.
Synephrine (Prop Blend)
Synephrine is a lipolytic agent, meaning it helps break down fat into glycerol (energy). It is a “fat burner.” (Synephrine Meta-Analysis)
Rauwolfia Vomitoria [Leaf] Extract (Prop Blend)
Also known as Alpha Yohimbine or simply “Alpha Yo,” it is a central nervous system stimulant. It can be pretty divisive, with some individuals reporting anxiety, headaches, sweating, chills, and increased blood pressure.
I personally did not get any negative side effects.

We definetly would not compare this to Dark Energy or Jack3D.
